Working with non-Google Files in the new Google Drive

While many RTW Mobile clients use Google Apps to accomplish all their daily activities, some people in these organizations use non-Google files and applications. This is particularly true for Google Apps for Government users. Two great features are available to these users.
First, it is easy to many revisions for non-Google files in the new Google Drive. Users can easily Manage versions by selecting the non-Google file and use the More Actions menu (or by right-clicking on the file).

The second feature is even better! This week Google announced the launch of a new extension for Chrome that lets you open files from Drive directly into a compatible application installed on your computer. This means you can keep just about anything in Drive - advanced photo/video editing, accounting and finance, design, etc. - and you can use your browser to access and manage these files. You must install the latest version of the Drive app for PC or Mac, and sync your files. Then open Drive in your Chrome browser (note: must be using new Drive) and right-click on the file to select "Open with" and you'll see a list of the applications on your computer that are compatible with that file. Now you can open Photoshop file in Photoshop, make the edits and save the changes back into Drive, which will sync across your devices and collaborators.
